this file need som adjustment : Update versions of operating system's or put other BSD projects : EkkoBSD, MicroBSD, MirOS BSD, DragonFly BSD, Pico BSD, Trusted BSD...

All of which are too minor to care about. They are -not- milestones in UNIX, at all en:User:Kiand 16:38, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I put Minix in Linux ancestor is a "political" shoose.

Projecte GNU ?

[edit]

Why is "Projecte GNU" the correct name of the system, as opposed to "GNU Project" ? The page is in English, not in Spanish ? --205.236.143.254 21:15, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's not spanish - if it were, it would be "es:Proyecto GNU". --Yonghokim 08:29, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some notes ...

[edit]

There is an influence from FreeBSD and OpenBSD to Mac OS X -- Apple has used code from these projects and contributed to them.

There is also an influence from GNU to the free BSDs, in that the BSDs do use the GCC compiler and other GNU tools.

Solaris is often considered to be "more SysV-ish" than SunOS. --71.146.46.82 08:12, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OLD

[edit]

this is an old file: I suggest it be updated, as OpenBSD is now in version 3.9, not 3.7 and many other versions are old. the preceding unsigned comment is by 205.250.104.174 (talk • contribs) 16:31, 13 August 2006

An updated version exists: Image:Unix history.svg. --80.63.213.182 12:44, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

System Family

[edit]

The diagram is subtitled "System III & V family". Which to me suggests that each of the Unix' is of type III or V but that can not be distinguished from the diagram. I wonder whether it would be desirable/possible to include that information. --213.47.92.128 10:20, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
