This image was previously tagged as having no evidence of permission, for the reason that there is nothing on the source page that indicates the images are released under a free license. Sounds reasonable. But here's the back-story.

Back in 2006, I contacted Dave Whitinger (previously of "Dave's Garden", now of "All Things Plants") and had asked if he would license his images under a free license so that we could use them on Wikipedia. He agreed, and put a prominent notice on his personal list of image saying this. All this was documented here. (The OTRS system was not used by Wikipedia at that time.)

Since then, he moved from "Dave's Garden" to "All Things Plants", and asked that the "source" credit refer to the new site. He also no longer has a prominent notice saying this. But these free licenses are not retractable (and I don't believe he wants to retract it anyway). All of these were validly released under a free license, and the author's decision to move to a new site with different notices doesn't change that.

All this applies to all the images in Category:Photographs by Dave Whitinger, by the way. – Quadell (talk) 11:21, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
