SVG version

[edit]

A tag was placed on the file pointing to an .svg version. That's fine and it's quite right to do so for certain files, however I just wanted to mention a couple of things. I uploaded this file because I felt it was a more 'polished' version than the .svg file that existed prior, also, because this is only a flag, it is unlikely to need the utility of a vector image. Would it be fair then to ask not to have the tag on this file? Izzedine (talk) 12:48, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Transition to SVG. From that SVG you can easily create a 2000px large version [1] of the flag. This tag is mandatory for pngs with vector version available. --Martin H. (talk) 14:24, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The notes section there seems relevant:
"There have been complaints about PNG images being replaced by inferior quality SVG images, or even by factually incorrect ones. Especially the latter is not acceptable by an encyclopaedia project. Make absolutely sure that the quality of the replacement is the same or superior to the original, before marking it as redundant."
If you consider my request, the point that a very large image such as 2000px is unlikely to ever be needed, and these notes, I think it should be fine without it. Izzedine (talk) 14:42, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The template says it: "It should be used in place of this raster image when superior". So no need to replace the image in the projects if not superior. The file format is superior, maybe the problem with the svg (if there is a problem, I only see that the circle in this png version is not a perfect circle but has some notchs, the svg is better) can be solved probably, so a good idea to simply keep the link to the superior file format. --Martin H.
