I'm not quite clear on why the license {{PD-USGov}} was used for this image.

  • The source shown, "National Technical Laboratories", was in spite of its name not a national government organization. Rather it was a private company with national aspirations :-)
  • That the image was shown as part of an exhibit in a national museum (credit: National Museum of American History, Behring Center, Smithsonian Institution and Beckman Coulter, Inc. From exhibition "Visible Proofs: Forensic Views of the Body") does not change its original copyright status. It can be reproduced in the exhibit by a national government organization (either under fair use or with permission of the copyright holder) without changing its copyright status and entering the public domain.

Therefore I believe it to be inappropriate to use the {{PD-USGov}} license currently shown.

That said, I am not disputing that this image is in the public domain -- I believe that it is -- I have not found any indication that the copyright of the original publication was renewed, as would have been required. Therefore I believe that {{PD-US-not renewed}} would be the more appropriate license to use. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 17:17, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
