Not Osman Digna, not from 1899

There were no photos made from Mahdi leaders during the Mahdi uprising. Osman Digna was captured on the 19th January 1900. According to the file description the picture was released in The Graphic from the 7th January 1900. So this couldn't be Osman Digna after his capture.

This photo was taken by Georges Révoil during his expeditions to Somalia between 1877 and 1883. It was published e.g. in Élisée Reclus' Nouvelle géographie universelle, Vol. XIII in 1888 and is desribed as types Somal (Somali types) .

Other attributions are therefore wrong, like Soudan veteran, Beja tribesman from eastern Sudan, 1885 or Osman Digna. --Kristián Czerny (talk) 08:27, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
