Licensing problem

[edit]

There's a problem with the licensing of this file and its derivatives. It cannot be PD-India as the present state of Karnataka was formed only in 1956 and this file is not a "photographic work" at all. Some admins need to look at it more closely. Rahul Bott (talk) 08:30, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know about the problem, Rahul Bott. Since I only provided a vector version and relied on the licensing given here, I will follow this discussion but can't really contribute much. I don't have the slightest clue about Indian laws for that matter. Just a hunch on a potential explanation ... even it th state was only formed in the fifties, maybe the province, region or other former entity has used the same coat of arms/seal before, so that it is old enough and just has been adopted when the state was newly formed? --chris 15:58, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This explanation is quite unlikely to happen given that the logo has the National Emblem of India at its top and even though I could not find the emblems for the erstwhile Mysore and Coorg state, they had no reason to have the emblem inspired from a Mauryan dynasty sculpture in their coat of arms/seal!
