Accuracy

[edit]

This map has several chronological and geographical inaccuracies:

  • No source for Satavahana rule / raid in Pataliputra. This appears to be based on the Puranas, which state that the first Satavahana ruler dethroned the Kanva dynasty (who apparently ruled Magadha). But there is no evidence that the Satavahanas advanced up to Pataliputra to do that.
  • The dates (2nd century BCE) are also inaccurate according to most modern historians. The "long chronology" of the Satavahana dynasty (which assumes that their rule started in or before 2nd century BCE) is now widely discredited, as mentioned in the English Wikipedia article.
  • No source for the borders of the Satavahana kingdom; the location of the Pandyan kingdom should be further south etc.
