NoClip - This image is an improvement over Image:Resolution_chart.svg, but it still shows the horizontal pixel resolution of 1080i incorrectly. 1080i is 1920x1080. Both 1080i and 1080p are defined by SMPTE 274M. Tvaughan1 23:09, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly... we really need to fix this image, and also add some much better information and explanation to several wikipedia articles, including Interlace and Display resolution. Tvaughan1 23:12, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh... now I see the note at the bottom about 1.33 aspect ratio pixels. This is how some 1080i recording systems, such as HDV and HDCAM implement 1080i capture and recording. It is similar to the way some displays that have less than 1920x1080 pixel resolution claim 1080i compability (scaling!). However, the full pixel resolution of 1080i and 1080p is 1920x1080, as defined by SMPTE 274M. Some, very expensive professional HD cameras and recording systems (like HDCAM SR) capture and record 1080i at full resolution. A new consumer videocam recording format called [AVCHD] will also enable 1080i recording at full resolution (with real-time H.264 AVC encoding), although the first camcorders to implement AVCHD don't use the full bitrate, and don't quite achieve what the spec hopes to make possible.
