I am going to add the IW stuff, but because I am not very knowleadge of it, I am going to copy this version of the family tree that is better documented. Is kinda CRAZY. I think the weird versioning reasoning must be multiple companies working on a engine, making their own work, giving support to their fork, then have the publisher alternate releases (so why the numbers appear to skip from a side of the tree to the other).

This one is interesting.

https://www.giantbomb.com/slavedriver-engine/3015-2301/

Sega Genesis had a excellent Quake engine.. but was a real completelly new engine created from scratch that used different structures and data than Quake. I want to add this to the tree, but because is not a fork of any of the others, I will have it separated, his own isle.

I has been debating with members of the Quake community with a shared interest in open information about the content of the tree. There was some discussion about adding or not the games based on FTE and Darkplaces. A small group of people made good arguments about the removal of that part. I will remove that part, since I don't have a argument of the same weight against. I have this gut feel the article is better with that information, but wikipedia don't work on gut feels. 80.174.19.224 14:05, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Another possible avenue to make the file better is to reflex the commercial name of the engine. Id Software talk about "idTech 1", "idTech 2", "idTech 3"... I hate these names, but what is the NPOV of these names? I think adding these names in the document next to the popular name would be useful for the wikipedia visitors.

The historical importance of Telejano and the Telejano based games and engines is inferior to what this tree seems to imply. The part of Telejano would benefict from making it simpler. That or expand other game/engines to the same level of detail.

Hi!,

The file need some extra maintenance. Quake has continued growing has a subculture and theres new engines. The popular ones are now QuakeSpasm, FTE, Mark V. Stuff. My point is that this list need some changes in some parts, like the Firzquake expanded. Also theres a Re-Release of Quake in a new engine. This new engine is a different engine, but use parts of the original one. It would probably depend on Winquake. So how we can do this? I have not edited wikipedia in long time, so I don't know what is the culture now.

Urban Terror is missing, as it should be a branch from Quake III Arena. More specifically, ioQuake.

It need to extract the graphvis DOT format from the image first. The original url of this resource is dead. ~ bayo or talk 23:59, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"STV: Elite Force II" should be "ST: Elite Force II" (without the 'V') (see w:en:Star Trek: Elite Force II and w:en:Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force). --Nenntmichruhigip (talk) 06:38, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Addition: OpenWolf, derrived from WolfET afiak (cite? needs confirmation. http://www.moddb.com/games/openwolf), still currently under developement by dushan. It was used for TremZ, a cancelled project due to various copyright issues and developer community issues. After that issue ended, the engine was forked to form Daemon. Before TremZ's issues arose, there was much more support for the game engine developement including those who worked on the TremFusion client for Tremulous..

TremZ is in a nutshell the migration of Tremulous 1.2 GPP gamelogic code into the OpenWolf engine, with various new assets incl. those what were intended for Tremulous 1.2 but were never released with the latest official public tremulous GPP updates. There's also a tradition to release content on a "thursday" because Tremulous 1.2 was promised to be released on a thursday (which it never did come)

From OpenWolf comes Daemon, which is used in TremZ's fork, Unvanquished. Xonotic's devs are interested in the game engine and were considering to migrate their game code into the daemon engine. Unvanquished strives to become a seperate differnet game as a successor to tremulous. ZdrytchX (talk) 13:57, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Correction: "American McGee's Alice" should be descending from "Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2" as it is using .tik, .urc .ftx the first two where unique to "Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2" using Ritual Entertainments Übertools. From this then "Medal of Honor: Allied Assault" and the Add-ons was created and later "Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault" While Ritual improved on their Übertools later used in "ST: EliteForce II" This can all be proven by looking at the the game files (scripts, and textures changed and improved while *.urc/ui stayed pretty much the same).
