Rationale

[edit]

This image is missing proper fair use rationale. There was some bogus info specified that I commented out.

I did find a copy of what appears to be the same engraving on the web at

http://lincoln.lib.niu.edu/fimage/image.php?id=3515

The info provided there is

Henry Rowe Schoolcraft
Date: unknown
Creator: Wellstood and Peters, engravers
Image Source: Cirker, Hayward and Blanche, Eds. Dictionary of American Portraits. New York:Dover Publications, 1967.
Permission: Public domain

This info is a little incomplete. It says it is public domain but it doesn't quite explain why. I'm guessing Wellstood and Peters were 19th century engravers and that is the basis of its becoming public. I don't have a copy of the "Dictionary of American Portraits" to see if there is more information provided there about the image.
