Misidentification

[edit]

There are a great many plants called oregano that aren't Origanum vulgare. From its appearance, the tropical location, and the usage reported, this is probably w:Plectranthus amboinicus, which smells and tastes something like oregano, and is often called Cuban oregano or other variations on the name oregano.
