I don't know what publication this is from, but the altar in the drawing is from the so called Temple of the Deified Vespasian in Pompeii.

It's a Roman marble artwork, on top of which priests burnt the organs of sacrificial animals-- the relief on the front shows a bull being led to such a sacrifice.
