I just uploaded a version of the map updated for the 2014 season: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NCAA_Division_3_football_map_2014.gif
A summary of the changes made:
- Modified conference names for consistency, removing all generic indicators (e.g., Collegiate, Association) unless a necessary and differentiating part of the name (e.g., SAA vs. SCAC; Liberty League is used in a similar fashion to Ivy League, and thus it is relatively rare to hear someone say just “Liberty”). I tried to match the original font used, but couldn’t quite perfect replicate it so I went with Arial 9pt bolded.
- Corrected ECFC name (not East Coast)
- Modified team names to reflect actual usage.
- E.g., Louisiana to Louisiana College (a la Illinois College)
- Updated affiliations using the 2014 seasons conference standings at D3Football.com: http://www.d3football.com/seasons/2014/index
- Removed Mississippi College- moved up to D2 Gulf South.
- Texas Lutheran from ASC to SCAC.
- Brockport from NJAC to E8.
- Added Alfred State (IND)
- UAA teams: on one level, with Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve joining the Presidents’ starting in 2014, Chicago and WUSTL are Independents (as listed on D3Football). However, as this Case press release notes, while CMU and CWRU are in the PAC for playoff purposes, they continue to play UAA opponents. http://www.d3football.com/seasons/2013/contrib/201406051li0ij Likewise, the CMU schedule denotes which games are vs. UAA opponents. http://athletics.cmu.edu/sports/fball/2014-15/schedule As such, I have left Chicago and WUSTL’s designations as UAA and given CMU and CWRU hybrid UAA/PAC designations.
- Also, Chicago and WUSTL will not start SAA play until 2015 a so I’ve returned them to purely UAA, not SAA (yet).
- Maranatha Baptist from NATHC to IND.
- Added MASCAC and moved former NEFC teams.
- Macalester from IND to MWC.
- SVU from IND to NJAC
- Added Iowa Wesleyan (new program in 2013, UMAC)
- Huntingdon from IND to USAC
