Lost metadata

[edit]

@Trajano Cabrales: I've reverted your recent change to this file as it seems to have broken the metadata that the file was originally created for. Each province is located in a "Provinces" group, and each municipality is located in a "Municipalities" group. All municipalities have special attributes which indicate its municipality name, including the province name (which is also available on the paths for provinces). Your recent change seems to have wiped this metadata, and generated paths with improper IDs, so I've reverted it for now in the interest of preserving that metadata.

I see that NAMRIA has recently updated the original dataset on the OCHA site. I'm assuming the changes are to reflect the recent Maguindanao division plebiscite, though I could be wrong. Updates usually don't have edit summaries, so I wouldn't know for sure without actually looking at the data. In any case, I'll be implementing the updates very soon and updating the generation code found in the file description for reference. In case this doesn't include the changes to Cagayan de Oro's boundaries, please feel free to inform me or to edit the shapefiles themselves for processing. Thanks! @Trajano Cabrales: It seems like OCHA did not update the records and they're still the same as before. Do you have the exact list of changes to Cagayan de Oro's borders and a reputable source for it? Chlod (say hi!) 07:14, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi!
It's okay that you've reverted the file. I could have send you a message in your talk page regarding the borders of Cagayan de Oro and make a revision yourself.
With regards to the boundaries of Cagayan de Oro City, I obtained the boundaries from the Unified Land Information System (ULIS) of the Cagayan de Oro City Planning and Development Office (CPDO). The southern territory of Cagayan de Oro used to be the municipal district of Lumbia before they were divided and ceded to Cagayan de Oro and Opol (by virtue of Presidential Executive Order No. 38, s. 1954), and borders Iligan City. The southernmost barangay of the City, Barangay Besigan, borders the Municipality of Tagoloan II and Bubong in Lanao del Sur. Trajano Cabrales (talk) 18:03, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Trajano Cabrales! Sorry for the delay. Having looked deeper into the above (which I now kind-of regret), I certainly am confused about a lot of things. As it turns out, OCHA, NAMRIA, ULIS, Wikimedia Commons, Google Maps, and OpenStreetMap disagree in some way on what the borders of Cagayan de Oro are. It may take some time for me to sort this out, find the appropriate (and exact) data for the shape of CDO, and to update the generator so that it can patch the edited boundaries into the image in a way that wouldn't break the current metadata. It'd be great if all of these sources were in agreement (and if all of them had high-resolution shape data), but that just doesn't seem to be the case. Chlod (say hi!) 16:21, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Chlod!
Maps of CDO with boundaries that are commonly used in maps and statistics, including MapAction which they derived from OCHA, are erroneous on the account that the city's barangay boundaries are incorrect leading to Barangay Tignapoloan excluded.
The City's borders from the ULIS are the ones officially used by the City Government of CDO and its offices, especially the City Engineering Office (CEO), Agricultural Productivity Office (APO), City Agricultural Department (CAD), and the City Planning and Devt. Office (CPDO). Trajano Cabrales (talk) 17:37, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
