This picture has apparently been used -at various times- to illustrate anyone from en:Fakhr al-Din II, to a member of the en:Harfush dynasty.

In fact, it illustrates Muhammad Turabay, of the en:Turabay dynasty, as described by en:Laurent d'Arvieux, who met him in 1664. The first illustrated edition (which I have found) of d'Arvieux's work, is from 1718, p. 7. This was after d'Arvieux had died, so presumably the illustrator made the picture after d'Arvieux' description; including Turabay's pipe, and "diverting himself with carving a lttle white stick."

(I change the name of the file yesterday, and now apparently there is a discussion about it on [1]? )

Anyway, the same goes for the other illustration in d'Arvieux's books (including his socalled wife); they had nothing to do with en:Fakhr al-Din II (who d'Arvieux never met); they are all used to illustate his visit with the Turabays. Huldra (talk) 22:20, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
