Identification of the statue

I think this statue can be seen on page 212 of The Mysteries of Mithras. There, it is clearly identified as a statue of either Cautes/Cautopates and which was wrongly restored as Paris.-Civilizededucation (talk) 10:14, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Right. But please be careful: although Cumont was correct in this case, Cumont is by-and-large a very poor source, with identifications often made to fit his argument (i.e. his methodology is unscientific by modern standards). Also, please keep in mind that Cumont's magnum opus is almost 120 years old, and subsequent scholarship on the subject renders him obsolete. -- 89.14.253.158 10:36, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
