Boarders

[edit]

A lot of different versions of this map are floating on the internet. Apparently, the boarders are subject to some interpretation by Turkish nationalists. In particular, the en:Aleppo Vilayet is missing from the current version, the en:Mosul Vilayet isn't fully in. Also, all parts of Kurdistan are fully within the boarders of some versions of the map. See for example [1], [2], [3], [4]. So, what now? --Metrancya (talk) 21:19, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Replaced the old file with a new one. The accuracy of the old file was disputed and the content of the old file did not match the text of the Misak-ı millî. The new file follows the Misak-ı millî word-by-word and outlines the original designations as of 1920 (part -a- of the file) as well as the changed situation in 2016 (part -b- of the file) from the point of view of the original national pact - in particular the shift from majorities --> minorities and minorities --> majorities is of importance. Part -b- is necessary to discuss the 2016 redevelopment around the Misak-ı millî.
Note: the new map is based on File:Turkey in its region.svg (CC-BY-SA 3.0) --Metrancya (talk) 20:50, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Unless there are credible sources of encyclopedic relevance for including a comparison map with the current situation I am cropping it to part a. When the only article linking here is updated with information about the current geopolitical situation and its relevance to this set of decisions we might consider adding a second map to reflect that. I also edited out some redundant information in the map to make it less cluttered. AlwaysUnite (talk) 21:42, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've also removed the tag because the current version is as far as I can tell factually accurate. AlwaysUnite (talk) 21:49, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AlwaysUnite: Indeed, it took me quite some time to prepare the map. Argument for the removal of -b- accepted. I made the file while writing a new version of en:Misak-ı Millî but didn't have the time to complete it up to now. For part -b- there are good reasons to keep it somewhere (maybe in a separate upload). See e.g. [5] and [6] for reasons to keep the files and the articles updated. --Metrancya (talk) 22:58, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Arab majorities"

[edit]

What is the source for the 1914 Arab majority claim which extends into Turkey through Mediterranean? The area except some parts of Hatay was composed of Turks and Turkmen tribes, not Arabs, especially not the Adana area, which is referred as "Çukurova".
