The file pictures Melas's cenotaph

[edit]

Since August 2021 this file has been accompagnied by the following description "Ο τάφος του Παύλου Μελά", i.e. "The grave of Pavlos Melas". Melas's body was actually interred more than once at different places (for this adventurous course of his dead body and his cut-off head consult the relevant section of the article of Greek wikipedia on Melas. This is actually his cenotaph -- as attested by a picture similar with this one contained in this article with the caption "Κενοτάφιο Παύλου Μελά". ("cenotaph of Pavlos Melas"). The relevant text reads: "σε κοντινή απόσταση υπάρχει το κενοτάφιο του. Το σημείο που αρχικά είχε ταφεί η ακέφαλη σορός του ήρωα αμέσως μετά τον θάνατό του.", i.e. "in close distance [from the village's centre] lies his [=Melas's] cenotaph. The place where the hero's headless body had been initially interred immediately after his death". A similar image is contained in this tripadvisor review of the Museum of Pavlos Melas in the village Melas. The reviewer writes: "λίγα βήματα πιο πάνω από το χωριό ,κάτω από μια αιώνια βελανιδιά ,δίπλα σε γάργαρο ρυάκι να δείτε το κενοτάφιο του Παύλου". i.e. "visit Pavlos's cenotaph, just a few steps further away from the village, under a centuries-old oak tree, next to a burbling waterstream". Taking these pieces of information into account, I change the file's description to render it more precise.

I am also tagging the uploader in case that s/he wants to share his thoughts on the matter. Ασμοδαίος (talk) 15:47, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
