This is VIETNAM picture, isn't it?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.234.60.154 (talk • contribs)

Vietnam-era, not WWII; NEEDS RETAGGING

[edit]

I do not know where the photo was taken; perhaps at one of the Marine training facilities on Okinawa, but this picture is not from World War II. Nor are they necessarily Marines. The gear is far more comprehensive; it's the M-1956 load-carrying equipment, not the WWII-era M-1910. The uniform is different; its the later-60s uniform pattern of both the Army and Marine Corps, and the camo pattern on the helmet is different; the woodland splotch rather than the jaguar spots of the Marines in WWII or Korea. The helmets also have outer bands which were not standard until the 1960s, and the practice of stuffing things in them was a trademark of service in Vietnam.

The photo is too blurry to make out weapons, but this picture was not taken before 1962 or so, and quite probably in Vietnam sometime between 1967-1972. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mwc33 (talk • contribs)
