I'd appreciate any comments you have on this image. Having created the "proper" railway map of Sodor I thought I'd try a Harry Beck-style map like those on the London Underground.

I chose the colours for the following reasons:

  • Ballahoo Line - sounds a bit like Bakerloo Line so chose the same colour (brown)
  • Brendam Bay Line - matches the colour of Bill and Ben who work at Brendam bay
  • Ffarquhar Line - the branch line of Thomas who is blue
  • Peel Godred Line - an electric railway so "electric blue" as British Rail locos
  • Arlesburgh Line - Duck's branch line so Great Western green
  • Skarloey Railway - matches the colour of the engines - red
  • Culdee Fell Railway - matches the colour of the engines - purple

I found the "Sodor" logo on this page - scroll down to the art-deco posters by Peter Edwards. It looks similar to the British Rail logo, but backwards and more curved so as to resemble an "s".

Wouldn't a Harry Beck-style map be best if it didn't actually include the Island itself? Rather, if it was just a represenation of the stations and connections, instead of also including their relative geographies: that's what the non-Beckised map is for. --Islomaniac 973 17:30, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Even Beck-style maps standardly include major water features (as is done with LUL, Paris Métro, Rome Metro etc.), so a fortiori the coasts of islands should also be shown. Almost all Beckised maps of Britain's railway system do this – the few exceptions (e.g. one used by InterCity in, I think, the '80s) have drawn attention precisely by diverging from the norm in this way. Converting to SVG - help needed

As the original author and uploader of this file, it is my intention to convert the vector source image to SVG and upload it, replacing this one. The image was created in Serif Drawplus 7 which cannot export in .SVG format. Early experiments involving copy-pasting into OpenOffice.org Draw did not give the anticipated results. If any user can assist by either carrying out the conversion from .DPP or .PDF to .SVG, or by recommending a piece of software that I can use to do so, please leave a message on my Talk Page.
