Attention administrators: Problems

[edit]

This is pretty messed up; what is more, so are the features. The original gate was to Bradley Palmer State Park. Subsequently an Asian user managed to replace the picture, which had the same name, with a gate in an Asian country. I attempted to revert to the original picture. When I clicked on revert, the message said I was reverting to the picture of 2010. However, it did not revert to that picture, but to the Asian gate. Something is obviously wrong with the features here. For one thing, how was another picture of the same name able to replace my picture? Second, why is it not reverting?

I have spent all the time on this I plan to spend on Wikimedia for a week. If you administrators are currently inclined to administrate I suggest you administer this. I don't mind if you remove the picture or change its category. If you do that I suggest you remove my description, as it no longer fits. Unfortunately I no longer have the original shot of the gate. Like your system, mine went wrong one day and I lost a whole lot of material. This is why, if you are taking the pictures in Commons seriously - and I presume you are - it is so necessary for you to find the reasons why these events are happening. This is obviously a path of attack for vandals, although I am not saying the Asian user is necessarily one. You need to make it so that no one can replace a picture with a totally different one of the same name. I suggest you follow the commonly accepted practice of appending a "1" to the copy. Moreover, why is "revert" not working?Botteville (talk) 01:56, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
