How can this painting represent the Loch Ness monster, if it is made in 1889 (possibly by an Austrian painter, if that Heikenwaelder even is the original maker)? The claimed monster in Loch Ness wasn't generally known before 1933. The creature in the painting would seem to be more likely a seamonster than a lakemonster (how many lake has such big waves?). It would be interesting to know more about the origin of this picture, because it is used so widely in different articles about Loch Ness monster. --Risukarhi (talk) 13:58, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've asked the uploader to look at this question. Trijnsteltalk 18:16, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ping Risukarhi: Heikenwaelder send me the following reply on 18 April and that explains a lot:

Dear Trijnstel !
I'm the author and painter of the oilpainting "The Loch-Ness-Monster", (oil on wood).
I painted it about the year 1999, and it is shown in many exhibitions worldwide and published in many books.
Is there any problem about this painting ? I do not understand . . .
Best regards from Austria, - Hugo Josef Heikenwaelder . . .

So it was made in or about 1999... I updated the file page accordingly and removed the "fact disputed" template. Trijnsteltalk 12:05, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If the painter himself has told that the painting represents the Loch Ness monster, then there's of course no problem. When I put the "fact disputed" template there two years ago, the date was for some reason claimed to be 1889 [1]. It seems that this IP edit (done one month earlier) caused all the trouble and misunderstanding. --Risukarhi (talk) 13:58, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
