Are we sure this is a photo of Johnson Chesnut Whittaker?

[edit]

Whittaker lived from 1858 to 1931. His military experience took place in the late 1860s and early 1870s. The subject of this photo looks to be wearing clothing that's closer to the World War I era than the 1880s, especially the roll down collar and rank insignia on the collar.

I wonder if this photo is one of Whittaker's two sons. Miller and Johnson Whittaker Jr. both served in World War I. Miller F. Whittaker, who served as president of South Carolina State University, was a second lieutenant in the 368th and 371st Infantry Regiments, units of the 92nd Division, which corresponds to the rank insignia in the photo.

This photo is Johnson C. Whittaker Jr.

Assault at West Point, The Court Martial of Johnson Whittaker, by John Marszalek. I located the photo, and it's Johnson Whittaker Jr., the son of the man who was expelled from West Point.

I'll request an update to the title, and update the categories accordingly.
