Portugal

[edit]

Does Portugal have an official position on this issue? I know Portugal supports motions calling for talks at Ibero-American summits, but the US does the same at the Summit of the Americas, and yet the US is listed as being neutral.

The UK and Portugal have the oldest running alliance in the world and during the 1982 war Portugal offered facilities in the Azores to the Royal Navy. Has Portugal given a unilateral statement of support to Argentina's claim (like Spain and most Latin American countries have done)? --Philip Stevens (talk) 09:52, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I read this: La Argentina suma apoyo de Portugal y España al reclamo por las Malvinas (in in Spanish). But, i don't know exactly. --Gastón Cuello (talk) 18:59, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
in TeleSur

English:Portuguese Prime Minister, José Socrates, said at a press conference that the summit in Estoril approved a statement based on the issue of the Falklands, which calls on the governments of Argentina and Britain "to resume, as soon as possible possible negotiations to find a quick solution to the sovereignty dispute over the islands".

Thanks for this, but I think there is a difference between calling for negotiations and supporting Argentina. For example, the UN and the United States support negotiations, but they are officially neutral on the sovereignty of the islands. --Philip Stevens (talk) 14:15, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. The issue is the Argentines headlines speak of "support". I ask as a favor, if you can search a little more. Thank you! :) --Gastón Cuello (talk) 19:23, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The headline speaks of "support", but this not supported by the text of the article. The Portuguese Prime Minister only talks of a resumption of negotiations, not support for one side. I think a distinction should be made between nations that support Argentina's sovereignty over the islands (which is most Latin American nations) and nations that call for negotiations (such as the US and Portugal). Recognising Argentine sovereignty over the islands and calling for negotiations to resolve the sovereignty dispute are not the same thing. --Philip Stevens (talk) 20:46, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the color of Portugal, if you want to place it as neutral or you do what you said. --Gastón Cuello (talk) 21:01, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Portugal is NOT a "Other member of African Union and Arab League"

[edit]

It's Pink on that map. Fix it ffs.

Why those colors?

[edit]

Why Argentina and the countries that support its claim are red-colored on the map? I think that's not neutral. Red suggests danger and it's not part of the Argentine flag. --Gejotape (talk) 03:02, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
