@StellarHalo: While I agree that the version you have uploaded is subjectively better looking, are you absolutely certain that it is objectively improved in all possible contexts? I think your effort is really useful, but would it not have been more appropriate and in accordance with COM:OVERWRITE to upload a new derivation instead? I hope you do not take this the wrong way, but the purpose of the images extend beyond aesthetics to scientific data, and I would pose the hypothesis that the image you uploaded may compromise some of the original information, such as for instance information about the atmosphere at the moment of capture.
