2003 Q1

[edit]

I don't know who writes Apple's quarterly press releases, but they sure can't count. The "percent increase" quoted in them is almost always incorrect. For instance, the 2003 Q4 press release quotes a 909% increase in iPod sales from 2002 Q4, but 807 is 1003% of 78, so the correct number is 903%. A 909% increase would mean either 787,000 units sold in 2003 Q4 (going forward) or 80,000 units sold in 2002 Q4 (going backward), both of which are incorrect.

Err the 2003 Q4 doesn't say 909%, I don't know where you got that number from. It says "336 thousand iPod® units, up 140 percent from the year-ago quarter". The accompanying data summary gives 140,000 as 2002 Q4 sales. Can you recheck which numbers are you actually complaining about. MySchizoBuddy (talk) 07:54, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the numbers and "percent increase" given in the 2004 Q1 press release, iPod unit sales in 2003 Q1 were 219,000. However, although I can't find a 10Q for 2003 Q1,

Here is the 2003 Q1 filing.MySchizoBuddy (talk) 07:54, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Subtracting the quarterly totals given in the 2003 Q2, 2003 Q3 and 2003 Q4 10Q (78, 304 and 336, respectively) from the annual total given in the 2003 10K (939) gives 221,000. I could correct the table, but I have no idea how to correct the graph.DagErlingSmørgrav (talk) 13:04, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All the numbers are given in the accompanying Data Summary linked in each press release, you can get all the numbers from there. You don't need to find the 10Q for every quarter. MySchizoBuddy (talk) 07:54, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
