Correction: This photo shows the CVRR station

[edit]

There have been several railroad stations in Hagerstown, and some of these were located close to each other, so it's possible to get confused (like me). This CVRR station has a disinctive center tower, unlike the other stations past and present in Hagerstown. It is depicted in photos at the Western Maryland Historical Library (http://www.whilbr.org) and in several vintage postcards, which are clearly labeled as "CVRR Station." This photo is also described in Mary H. Rubin, "Hagerstown: Railroading Around the Hub City," (Arcadia Publishing, 2003), ISBN 9780738515076, p. 11. The CVRR station was demolished in the 1960s to make way for the Walnut Towers housing project. There is a historical marker on the site; see http://www.hmdb.org/Marker.asp?Marker=45598 .

The former Western Maryland Railway station, built in 1913, still stands, and is being used as a police station. Currently there are no photos of this station on Commons, but photos are available on several other sites, including the Maryland Historical Trust. http://www.mdihp.net/dsp_county.cfm?search=county&criteria1=W&criteria2=WA&criteria3=&id=20173&viewer=true
