Very interesting picture! I have fished the Connecticut River in this area for about 40 years (since about 1974) and watched this bridge slowly deteriorate even more than shown here. The arch is made of wood, what appears to be wood from local cedar trees. It originally held the small train that Gillette used to ride around his property. An old girlfriend who lived in the area told me that she used to ride her horse across the bridge. I have not seen it from land, I assume you can no longer safely cross it.
