Unknown French General
[edit]Any idea who this well-decorated person is? Photo is from Harvard Art Museum, who says he's General Giroflore... Scewing (talk) 01:22, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
RE: Unknown French General
[edit]Interesting one, the name seems to be completely wrong given the utter lack of any google hits. The number of medals and their type suggests there would be mentions of him somewhere. The ones I can identify and was hoping to tie together to one person are commandeur of the en:Légion d'honneur (the front medal around his neck), the en:Crimea Medal (British medal with clasps second from the right of image), the British en:Order of the Bath (large rectangular medal second from left on ribbon bar). It all suggests he was prominent in the en:Second French Empire, not one of my areas of expertise I'm afraid. It has me intrigued so I will keep trying to identify some of the other ones... - I can add that he has served in the Imperial Guard of either Napoleon I or III, the Aiguillette on his right shoulder was only worn by present or ex members of the Imperial Guard at this time. Carl Logan (talk) 19:37, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
