Not an astrolabe in English or French

[edit]

This instrument is not an astrolabe - it is a graphometer - at least in English or French.

Perhaps in German the two words are used synonymously, but if this image is used on an English, French or similar language article, it should be identified as a graphometer ( Fr. graphomètre ). --Michael Daly 21:48, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Further:

Having poked around on Google (and with no knowledge of German), I found some information. Is it possible the proper name for this instrument is Halbkreisgerät? I searched German language web pages for the term graphometer and found one that shows an illustration with the accompanying text "...Halbkreisgerät (graphometer) ...", suggesting that as a translation (a lot of German language pages use graphometer as in English). Following that with a search of German language pages with the word Halbkreisgerät, suggests that this might be the correct word, but a fluent German speaker would be in a position to correct me. --Michael Daly 20:46, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
