Identification

[edit]

I have a serious doubt on the identification of this work on the Joconde database (ref. 000PE007424), and hence on Wikimedia Commons. This painting, kept in Versailles according to the Joconde database, does not seem to me to be the portrait of cardinal François-Joachim de Pierre de Bernis (1715-1794), but rather the portrait of François-Camille de Lorraine (1726-1788), "prince de Lambesc, grand doyen de la cathédrale de Strasbourg". This portrait does not match the traits of cardinal de Bernis : see File:François-Joachim de Pierre de Bernis.jpg. Meanwhile, this painting matches another copy kept at the French National Archive, in the "dining room" of the prince of Rohan-Soubise's appartment, next to the music room, on the ground floor of hôtel de Soubise in Paris 4th arrondissement, and identified as "François Camille de Lorraine, Prince de Lambesc, Grand Doyen de la Cathédrale de Strasbourg, 1769". I will add the category "House of Lorraine" so maybe some expert can find this file and help sort this muddle out. Baronnet (talk) 16:51, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have received confirmation by Ms Trey, conservateur chargé des peintures du XVIIIe siècle et des pastels, at the château de Versailles, that this painting is a portrait of "l'abbé de Lorraine", and wrongly identified as cardinal de Bernis on the Joconde database. I have changed the details on Commons accordingly. Baronnet (talk) 16:13, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
