[edit]

The name of this file, "Four Correlations," does not seem to be appropriate. It shows four scatter plots, but the correlation is only identified for one of them. In any case, the correlation depicted in each is entirely secondary; what is important here is the different dependence structures.

There are also some questions: What is the role of this graphic? Is it to show the effect of correlation on how random points on the unit square will be jointly distributed? If that is the case, as the title seems to imply, it is not an effective illustration. Secondly, are the actual correlations (the rank correlations here, as the marginals are putatively uniform) the same? If so, the rank correlation and copula used for each are confounded.

I strongly urge that:

  1. the plots be drawn either for different copulas but the same rank correlation, or the same copula with different correlations (in which case it is superfluous as there are other illustrations of this); and
  2. the title be changed to something that accurately relates the content, such as, "Four dependence structures."
