Ireland's flag

[edit]

Why is the Fitzgerald's flag listed as "Ireland's" flag - this is highly contentious, and is part of British mythology. --MacRusgail 20:39, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't answer that, but it is incorrect anyway. The Irish Flag used, I recall being the flag of a prominent Anglo Ulster family, was a saltire or offset cross, hence it does not sit centrally within St Andrew's cross, but offset, giving the different widths of white around it, and creating a right and wrong way up for the Union Flag. 194.247.44.1 15:55, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't the Act of Union, which gave birth to the Union Flag, in 1707 and not 1606?
