Ok. Try this on for size. This is a celtic mandala. No christian monk or prelate invented it. He/They merely transcribed it from an account, probably oral, rendered by a Druid/Ollamain/Filidh whose identity we'll never know. The purpose of this manala was to measure (harp?) music (pace S. O'Boyle). The measures of music reflected "the harmony of the spheres". This was important for magical purposes, i.e., to manipulate things or events by imitating the sounds corresponding to the supernatural force which upsang into being the things and events one wanted to control magically.
