I somewhat doubt if these people are really Sami, if this picture was indeed taken 20-30 km north of Rovaniemi, since there are no Sami people living in that part of Lapland. The Sami area begins some 150-200 km north of Rovaniemi. Those guys are probably just some ordinary people wearing costumes for the tourists... --BishkekRocks 22:04, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The clothes depicted in the photography are not sami, but rip-offs made purely for the use in the tourism industry of Finnish Lappland. There´s an ongoing campaign by samis to boikott the use of these fake sami costumes, and I strongly recommend that the picture is tagged as fake. Pål H (talk) 09:59, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the image isn't "fake" even if it depicts a fake costume. I beleive the solution is to make these concerns clearer in the image description, that already states "Considered "tourist" clothes by some locals.". Finn Rindahl (talk) 15:37, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The picture is a fake because it is currently being used as an illustration for articles on Sámi culture etc. It's highly problematic, since these people are most probably not Sámi and these are definitely not traditional Sámi outfits. They're fake. And this is not an issue we take lightly, see: [1] and images at [2]
