This graph is questionable, especially the decline from 1995 to 2000. There would be a sharp decline in 1999, as Indonesian military and settlers withdrawa, but otherwise population increased gradually through the 1990s, and more rapidly after the end of the Indonesian occupation in 1999. According to the UN World Population Survey in 2004, East Timor now has the highest natural population growth rate and one of the highest fertility rates in the world, with the current population of just over one million projected to double in less than 20 years.
