Hi, I have noticed that the bee species in this photo is not correct. This picture doesn't show a Trigona spinipes (Irapuã in Portuguese), it's actually a Trigona hyalinata (Guaxupé in Portuguese). The very word "hyalinata" (hyalina=colorless, white and ata=wing) refers to the fact that Guaxupé has white wings, while Irapuã has dark wings. Both bees are black and approximately the same size, so it is common to mix them up.

Here is a paper (in Portuguese) about Trigona spinipes that describes the species. In page 07 of the pdf (marked as page 73) T. spinipes is described as having dark wings and that this is a way to tell it apart from T. hyalinata. Preserva.abelha (talk) 01:27, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
