Derivative work from publicity about “The Lion of the West” play.

[edit]

Have found a couple of sources, e.g. Born on a Mountaintop: On the Road with Davy Crockett and the Ghosts of the Wild Frontier, Bob Thompson, 2013, that say the image comes from period images of James Henry Hackett playing the character Nimrod Wildfire from the play “The Lion of the West,” a not so subtle caricature of Davy Crockett 1831 (though only surviving version is of 1833). I’ve seen two versions of these advertisements and the Edward Clay lithograph looks the closest to the image used in the 1837 Almanack. I can’t find a definitive source for the lithograph though, let alone one in the public domain. To verify the image see: https://www.granger.com/results.asp?image=0175531&itemw=4&itemf=0001&itemstep=1&itemx=1 Father V (talk) 23:29, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
