I remember the old stone, turrented building well; I grew up (1935) at 1509 Vincent St, only 2 blocks away from the beautiful old building (as it is depicted in the lower picture). I do NOT recall seeing the building depicted in the upper picture; don't think it was at the same location at corner of Coggin Ave and Austin Ave. There was an old dark red, 3 story building on the entire block just to the South of the Daniel Baker College Main building, surrounded by many large trees and expanses of grass lawn, which was a dormitory used by boarding students. These building were very old even in 1936 when I was a small child. My Grandparents purchased the house on Vincent Street in 1928, but it was probably 30-40 years old when they bought it, and the Daniel Baker buildings (Main and Dormitory) had already been there for years. I am so sorry the beautiful old Main Building, so like a stone castle, was altered with the superstructure that now ruins its appearance. The entire area is now very depressed; the block which contained the Dormitory building is now all parking lot with strip shopping on it. I will never forget how wonderful the old buildings looked in the 1930s and 1940s - and am so sorry it is so badly transformed now. -w:user:216.63.252.69 20:02, 6 November 2010
