It is just a map of Greek Wikipedia in Greek langyage. In Greek language, ΠΓΔΜ is a country, Μακεδονία is a Greek region and Δημοκρατία της Mακεδονίας is nothing at all. What you want to say is that Greek readers are illiterate? Can't they understand what is Republic and what is Macedonia? Greek Macedonia is not even a province, but three separated smaller regions, so the there is not a confusion. Look, I am a Macedonian and my home land is Macedonia, like other 2.5 milion Macedonians. And my ancestors in Ottoman Era (grandfather etc.) used to call themselves also Macedonians. And my ancestors of Byzantine Era (grand-grand-grand-grandfathers etc.) used to call themselves also Macedonians and not like some other people that recently have adopted this self-identification and maybe they will change it after some years. To the Greeks and Greek speaking people, Macedonia is a region of Greece, Central Macedonia is a province located in Macedonia region, Kilkis prefeture is a prefecture in Macedonia region and Kilkis municipality is a municipality in Macedonia region. This is what a Greek man says, writes and reads in Greek language. The neighbor country is called "Skopja" in Greek language. "Skopja" although, is an unofficial name, used in some maps. The "map of Greece" I have in my room, for example, writes "Skopja" (ΣΚΟΠΙΑ) for the neighbor country. More official maps, used mainly in Public Services write "PGDM" (ΠΓΔΜ), means FYROM, for the neighbor country. And that's because of the agreement of 1994 to use only this acronym FYROM (in English) or PGDM (ΠΓΔΜ in Greek). So, 99,999% of Greek speaking people, when they refer to the neighbor country, they call it just SKOPJA. More official use is P.G.D.M. (F.Y.R.O.M.). All the other things you say is pure nationalism and nothing more. This map is for Greeks to be read, not for a team of Skopjan nationalists. It's an encyclopedia here and not your personal site. The nationalist here is you pall. I do not give a ..... about how you call yourself, your county and regions. You are Greek first of all and just since 1991 you started referring yourself as "Macedonian". Allow me to know better about the history of my family. As Macedonians, we have a very strong tradition of using that term for self-identification. All Macedonians did that. Read the documents of the 19th century, of the 18th century, of the 17th century, of the 18th century, of the 17th century, of the 16th century, of the 15th century, of the 14th century, of the 13th century (etc.) in Ottoman documents, in published books, in letters writen by Macedonians, in Greek revolutions documents, in European consular documents, in church documents etc. Actually, the term "Macedonian" was used only by Greeks. Other christians of Macedonia didn't know that term. The most common question when a christian from Macedonian town like Monastiri (now Bitola) or Gevgeli or Stromnitsa (now Strumica) or Vodena (now Edessa) happened to be in London or in Paris or in Moscow, was "Are you Macedonian or Slav?" And by Macedonian it was meant Greek. And if the question was "Are you Greek?" "Yes, I am Macedonian". And all these years, Greek poets, scholars, clerics, scientists, painters, military officers etc. declare and signed as Macedonians from the 19th century, to the 18th century, to the 17th century, to the 16th century, to the 15th century, to the 14th century, to the 13th century etc. And my family anchestors did so, as far as I know. Bulgarians start using this term only after 1850 and the nation you support started using this term only in the early 20th century, after starting gradually to be seperated from the Bulgarian nation. So, I think it's rational that you dodn't know that Macedonians existed all the time from the ancient times until now. That's why I know it and you don't. Or maybe you know it but you hide it. It's like you say that Macedonians were kidnaped by aliens in 100 BC and were sent back from the sky in 1940. But we were here all these years.

There 's been an agreement in United Nations in 1994 where Greece and FYROM agreed to use the term FYROM as an acronym and not full words, just like USA or UK. Maybe in English language it is acceptable the term "republic of Macedonia" but in Greek language that doesn't mean anything. The only thing that could mean in Greek is the Movement of National Defence in 1916 in WWI, when Macedonians rebeled against the king and established comittee with represantives of all over Macedonia (from Thessaloniki, from Serres, from Drama, from Kozani and from Florina), and military officers. The gave the presidentship to Eleftherios Venizelos and made the Thessaloniki Government, that was actually the Republic of Macedonia.

Even tourists that come to Greece and do hitching they know that the neighbor country is called "Skopia" or "FYROM" or "PGDM". When I ask them (I take some of them often with my car) where they go and they answer "Skopia" or "Fyrom" or they point on a Greek map which writes ΠΓΔΜ (PGDM). That's because they know that if they say "I wanna go to Macedonia" the answer always would be "You are here".

If you come to Greece and try to buy a Greek map, you will not find anything to write "Former Republic of Macedonia" or something else. The only thing that they write is "ΣΚΟΠΙΑ" or "ΠΓΔΜ". All the others in just POV. The "Republic of Macedonia" is translated in Greek as "ΠΓΔΜ". Don't use commons to expose POV.
