Not an Anopheles

[edit]

Hello, this image is incorrectly titled and therefore being incorrectly used and cited across the web. As it correctly states in the description of the image, this is a Culex mosquito, also known as a House Mosquito. This mosquito is not at all an Anopheles, let alone a gambiae. Anophelenes have palpi the same or similar length as the proboscis. In this image you can see that the palp are short and nubby compared to the long proboscis (needle-like structure at front of head). Just wanted to point this out as I found this image being referenced on several sites as being a "malaria mosquito" and while anopheles are malaria vectors, this Culex shown is not.
