Request for new image

[edit]

Hello everyone! I would like to request a favor. Could someone please make a version of this image that includes statute bans on same-sex unions and marriage? I feel it would give a more comprehensive look at restrictions than just constitutional bans. Thank you! Limetolime (talk) 20:16, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The information you seek is included in a map at File:Samesex marriage in USA.svg. Hekerui (talk) 20:55, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hawaii Update

[edit]

Hawaii should be updated on the map to blank.

Michigan Update

[edit]

Michigan should be updated on the map to blank. The March 21, 2014 ruling by the federal district court did not include a stay and enjoined the state from enforcing its same-sex marriage ban. Furthermore, several county clerks have announced that they are subsequently opening March 22, 2014 to issue marriage licenses. So until a stay has been issued by a higher court, the map should reflect that same-sex marriage is legal in Michigan- just as other maps on Wikipedia have done so: [Same-sex marriage in the USA] and [Recognition of same-sex relationships in the United States]

-Further Update- The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals has issued a stay on the ruling. The Court originally did not issue a stay and ordered the defendants to respond to the state's complaint by 25 March 2014; however, the Court then reversed itself later in the day and issued a temporary stay on the lower courts ruling. Hundreds of marriage licenses were issued on 22 March 2014 prior to the issuance of the stay, but currently the district court's ruling is not in effect.

Restoration of 2012 revision

[edit]

In order to illustrate the article on U.S. state constitutional amendments banning same-sex unions I restored the 2012 revision of this file. This maps reflects the passed amendments and their continued existence in U.S. state constitutions but not their legal validity after Obergefell v. Hodges.
