Colors

[edit]

Is there a key that goes with the color codes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.254.252.90 (talk) 22:16, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Latin America

[edit]

Wait a second?? Latin America is also a legacy of the Roman Empire through the culture passed from Latin Europe... why it is not in blue??? It is not called Latin America for nothing...... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.178.241.167 (talk) 17:08, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This map is supposed to report what Samuel Huntington published. It is not Wikipedia's opinion about cultural relationships. And Huntigton discriminated between Anglo and Latin America. Tomeasy (talk) 11:11, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gradation for Coexisting Civilizations

[edit]

It would be helpful if this map contained gradation for those countries which Huntington identifies as having multiple civilizations within, such as India (Hindu and Muslim). Something like this or like this.

Hispanidad?

[edit]

The description had the terms Hispanidad/Latin American and I removed the first one. There is absolutly no reason for calling Latin America as Hispanidad. This term is used for Spanish speaking nations worldwide, meaning that, in one hand, it includes non American countries, such as Spain and Philippines, and on the other it excludes Brazil. Of course, had Huntington used this name, we should let it here, as the file is about his vision of the World, regardless of it being right or wrong. However, I searched in the Wikipedia's article for The Clash of Civilizations and found no mention to Hispanidad. If he did call the region this way, we can replace the name, perharps with a note showing the definition mistake he made. That doesn't seem to be the case, anyway. 177.182.211.237 06:32, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What is the point of this map?

[edit]

What is the point of compiling a map loosely based on Huntington but with a dozen random changes? People on en-wiki seem to have figured out that this cannot be used in any encyclopedia article, but there are other Wikipedias, such as nl, pl and ru, which did not understand that this isn't a representation of Huntington's map and use it mistakenly in articles discussing Huntington. --Dbachmann (talk) 15:37, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is used on articles about Huntington and his book (which is why I found it here), and even liked to on the English wikipedia in combination with sourcing stating that it is from Huntington's book! A map representing Huntington's view of the world is encyclopedic for the purpose of illustrating Huntington's view on the world. E.g. Huntington describes Sudan as a torn country, so it only makes sense to illustrate the situation before that country was split in two. Huntington also expressly grouped Turkey into its own group, since it is not Arabic, that's his right as a scholar. But home-brew "improvements" on his work are utterly irrelevant, and misleading to readers unfamiliar with his book. Valentinian T / C 10:44, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Iran

[edit]

Quite vivid blur uploaded a version of the map with Shia Iran and Azerbaijan as a separate civilization, making "corrections according to Samuel P. Huntington's The Clash of Civilizations." Am I missing something? As far as I know, Huntingdon considered Iran to be part of Islamic civilization, end of story. Not that I suppose it really matters, given that we have File:Clash of Civilizations map.png, which is closer to the book anyways, but still, am I missing something? —Quintucket (talk) 01:11, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
