The name of the map

[edit]

Provided by the Library of Congress is obviously wrong. I've edited our commentary to reflect that and to state what's actually on the map itself. Kindly revert any attempts to restore information that simply gives a Korean name as "Chinese", misreads ancient Chinese (which is written top to bottom and from right to left) 十三 as "30" instead of the correct "13", or pretends that the Ming dynasty was still around in 1800.

That said, Chon'ha Chungguk is a Korean name (for 天下中國, the title on the reverse of the map) but seems associated with this map. Ditto Chungguk sipsamsong to, the Korean for 中國十三省圖. Presumably, that's the origin of this map (i.e., it's a Korean reprint of Chinese originals or a written Chinese description) but we need a source that states that and I can't find one. Any of you guys?LlywelynII (talk) 11:51, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ming?

[edit]

Given that the map is dated to c.1800, is there any good reason that the LOC guys think this is a map of the Ming Empire instead of the Qing? or is this just another mistake on top of the pile noted above?LlywelynII (talk) 11:53, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
