Why are there 9 different color values

[edit]

The image looked off to me since there are obviously a few different color values in it, when there should be just 2. I inspected it and found 9(!) different color values. This is confusing because the whole point of the rule is that a square can be only two different values, not 9. Is there any objection to changing it to just 2?
