Map errors

[edit]

There are some errors on the map that should be corrected:

  • Île Perrot (en fr), the small island to the south-west of the Island of Montreal, is part of Vaudreuil-Soulanges and should be coloured as such.
  • Champlain RCM was replaced by the merged city of Longueuil in 2002, and then by the Urban agglomeration of Longueuil in 2006.
  • Île Bizard is missing completely.

I tried to fix at least the first two things myself, but apparently I don't know enough about Inkscape and SVG. //Essin 16:07, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Île Perrot somewhat fixed (I guess the inner parts should be coloured with the brighter pink) but meanwhile, Le Bas-Richelieu changed its name to Pierre-De Saurel. Unfortunately the text was converted to paths in the original file, making it difficult to change when names change. //Essin (talk) 21:45, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that I was mistaken regarding Longueuil. According to this page the merged city covered not only the territory of the former Champlain RCM, but also areas that had belonged to Lajemmerais (Boucherville) and La Vallée-du-Richelieu (Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville) RCMs. This makes sense when comparing this map to this Government of Quebec map. Also, the municipality of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was transferred from Rouville RCM to La Vallée-du-Richelieu RCM at some point. So there are quite a few borders on this map that need to be redrawn... //Essin (talk) 13:27, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to correct the borders, more or less just sketching the new borders based on the government map because I didn't have access to the original data set that the map was based on, but the SVG code probably looks horrible now. The current version is my best effort to represent the current situation rather than some mixture between the pre-2002 situation and the current one, but it is by no means the best possible one. I encourage anyone who can improve the image to do so, and if it is too imprecise to be shown in articles, don't hesitate to revert. //Essin (talk) 21:21, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
