Wrong species

[edit]

Unless I am mistaken (admittedly quite possible!) this cannot be an image of Caladenia fragrantissima because that species is endemic to Victoria and South Australia and the photograph was apparently taken at Bolgart in Western Australia. Could be C. splendens, C. speciosa or C. longicauda. Not large enough for C. splendens? According to Hoffman, C. spesiosa "is closely related to .... C. longicauda and, for many years was thought to be merely a colour form. However it is distinguished by its pink-tinged flowers and prominently fringed labellum."[1] Brown et al. also add "longer and often split labellum fringe segments."[2] For me, that suggests the image is not of C. speciosa but of one of the subspecies of Caladenia longicauda. Distribution (NE of Perth) and flowering time (August) possibly suggest subspecies eminens. Beautiful image - pity not to be able to use it in a caladenia article. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable might agree with me. Gderrin (talk) 09:38, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
