rename

[edit]

I noted the removal and re-add. Question: Cant we add a date (and maybe a photographer name) instead of a flickr number? A date would be much more meaningful. Also we can add 'sunset' to the name. --Martin H. (talk) 00:17, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What date would you add? Personally, I couldn't answer this for this image, so I'd rather not.
There are elements that could be in a filename, elements that I wouldn't add to a filename, and elements that I wouldn't remove from filenames. Photographers name is probably in all three groups. Flickr id at least in the last one.
I don't think we should add "sunset" as the description is in Català and the language of a file name shouldn't be changed when renaming files, but "posta de sol" would be ok. Thus I'd add that too, but I'd still keep the identifier. -- User:Docu at 09:40, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, then maybe that language description, I dont make a difference between english and local language, both is ok. The flickr number is meangingless, it is not an archival number that follows an archival system or something like that, its just a number. I fully agree that renaming a file from the generic location name to something more special is ok, but the name should be meaningful for the image. So I'd still suggest "Cala d'Hort Eivissa, October 15, 2007.jpg" or "Cala d'Hort Eivissa, by Jaume Meneses.jpg" (the second of course depends on my personal preference to include the authorname to the filename, I know there are users who strongy disagree with that and even started rename actions to remove names from filenames). --Martin H. When I re-read my previous post, I thought i should have written "indication of source and identifier at source" instead of flickr id, because I think this is was it is. I don't think it is subject to change and thus it shouldn't be removed.
As "HP psc1310" is a scanner, I don't think its exif date is reliable. I don't mind having author's names in the filename, but if it's a photograph and the author didn't add it to begin with, I wouldn't add it myself. -- User:Docu at 10:02, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are absolutely right with the date, the album even gives another date. Ill move it back to the original filenam - but take the chance to get rid of the ugly capital letters. No reason to rename it in first place. --Martin H. (talk) 14:16, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The point is there are other elvissa items that I renamed some time earlier, and I have not seen any responses (unless I havent checked well enough) as to whether I need to change them again to suit these differing opinions - or not. SatuSuro (talk) 12:51, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK I previously renamed the other elvissa files literally at the request of the rename tag without leaving any numbers in - I would like to now revisit those renames and apply the convention established by the title of this file - are there any objections to that ?
