Date of picture

The date 1860 is definitely wrong for following reasons:

• The Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial German Navy) was only founded in 1872.
• SMS Rover was acquired by the Prussian Navy in 1862 and served later in the Marine des Norddeutschen Bundes (Navy of the Northern German Federation) from 1868 to 1871 and then in the Kaiserliche Marine.
• SMS Gefion served in the Prussian Navy and later in the Marine des Norddeutschen Bundes. She was taken out of active service in 1870.
• The flag displayed in Rover is not the flag of the Prussian Navy but either of the Northern German Federation or of the Imperial Navy. Both are very similar and the differences cannot be identified in this picture.

Therefore, it must be assumed that this picture was taken between 1868 when the flag was introduced and 1870 when Gefion was taken out of service.--KuK (talk) 17:13, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
