Comparison between the two paintings
[edit]Comparison between Bild 102-10245 and the Portrait by Matthew Henry Wilson :
The best to see the details of the pictures is to save them on your computer, and enhance the brightness with a picture viewing software.
Bild 102-10245 | Portrait by Matthew Henry Wilson | |
The picture is centered | a little below the mouth | on the bottom of the chin / middle of the neck |
Orientation of the face | tilted on the left | nearly straight |
Haircut | cleanly combed | with rebel hair (use enhanced brightness to see this) |
For these reasons I think that the two paintings are different. They might be based on the same photograph, but I don't believe this is enough to attribute Bild 102-10245 to Matthew Henry Wilson. Teofilo (talk) 11:02, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ahem... isn't it obvious that Bild 102-10245 has been manipulated already? (Square on top of the original oval.) Lupo 11:34, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes this is strange. I don't understand why we see some paintings above the frame. What do you think of the mention "unvollendete Gemälde" in the description ? Isn't it one more difference with Portrait by Matthew Henry Wilson, about which I have not read that it is said to be unfinished. google "Matthew Henry Wilson" + unfinished = 0 ! - Well, Google doesn't return much on this Wilson guy anyway besides that reprint available at any other poster shop. The captions reads like a newswire item or some such. Best would be if we could dig up the original English newspaper reports. Unfortunately, the time frame is a bit large; the image is sorted at the German Federal Archive into "Images from A-B-C (Aktuelle-Bilder-Centrale), Georg Pahl". Georg Pahl lived 1900-1963. - SIRIS has as many as 6 (7 including a copy) paintings of Lincoln by Wilson. Teofilo (talk) 13:09, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- There is also This story in the New York Times, 1911, explaining that the painter made two paintings simultaneously, one signed, one unsigned, and then produced more copies. But there is no talk about this new found painting in a house in California. Teofilo (talk) 13:30, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Interesting. here's a related story, mainly about what was the last photo? (Was on the image page once, resurrected from the archive for completeness.) Lupo 14:08, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
